Crowdfund platform targets environmental projects

A donation-funding platform has been launched by Norfolk County Council, together with Crowdfunder, in a bid to support grassroots and community-focused projects aiming to support the environment.

These schemes could include converting public greenspaces to wildlife habitats, coastal and marine projects, solar systems that cut the running costs of community assets and using sustainable techniques to cut carbon emissions from new-build community buildings.

Organisations wishing to apply need to be a registered charity, CIC or social enterprise, an organisation on the FCA Mutuals register, a constituted community group or volunteer organisation. Individuals, sole traders, for-profit businesses and organisations set up as trusts, including charitable ones, are not eligible to apply.

Projects that match the criteria will be able to seek donations from the community to reach their budget, with them eligible for 50% of funding up to a maximum value of £10,000.

Over £10 million is available through the +Extra funding, which is an easy way to raise extra money for a project by getting grants from corporate or public sector organisations, foundations or trust funds. Crowdfunder is pledging to top up the fundraising total with additional money or could agree to donate a certain amount for every £1 raised.
