Opergy has released a Decarbonisation Report and Action Plan, setting out how it plans to reach net zero by 2030 and set out a blueprint for others to follow.
The report, which covers the period June 2023 to May 2024, finds Opergy has managed to cut emissions by more than 27 tonnes of CO2 equivalent even though operating from a larger office, with more in-person working taking place too. This 40% drop has been made possible through replacing an oil boiler with an HVO-compatible system, reducing business travel and incentivising low carbon commuting, and investing in energy efficient lighting and equipment.
But Opergy recognises that it must go further to deliver its targets of net zero for Scope 1 emissions by 2026, followed by net zero for Scope 2 and 3 emissions by 2030.
Using an absolute contraction approach, the aim is to reduce emissions at source wherever possible, with local carbon offsetting and insetting projects explored for emissions considered unavoidable. Plans include office upgrades, such as thermal envelopes, smart plugs and lighting sensors, commuting and travel interventions, such as car sharing and cycle schemes, and sustainable procurement and waste reduction initiatives.
