Opergy is marking our sixth birthday by investing directly in the future workforce with our 6×6 Clean Energy Initiative, designed to help young people take their first step in the clean energy industry.
The window for nominations is now open – click here to fill out an online form – for young people looking to make their mark in clean energy across the country to benefit from complimentary access to the industry-designed, digital learning platform, Renewables Connect and one-to-one mentoring from Opergy’s team of experts. The closing date is 24 October, with judging then beginning and the winners announced later this month.
People and skills is an area Opergy has been very active in over the years, creating the Energy Skills Intelligence Hub and helping launch major regional skills plans. That means we know the scale of the workforce challenge facing the sector and the consequences from not rising to it.
Martin Dronfield, Group Commercial Director at Opergy, said: “The skills challenge is no longer a distant problem, it’s here now, with employers already competing for a limited pool of talent. Through our 6×6 Clean Energy Initiative, we’re responding directly and taking action, creating real pathways into the industry and helping young people get started on careers that matter to them and to the UK’s clean energy transition.”
To apply for this opportunity, the nominee is asked to submit a 500-word personal statement running through their vision for the energy sector and the role they want to play in making it happen. Opergy will then select six winners by the end of October, with access to Renewables Connect and one-to-one mentoring commencing thereafter, giving them the knowledge, confidence and direction as they begin their journey in this sector.
Johnathan Reynolds, Managing Director at Opergy, added: “Britain’s clean power ambitions are bold, but they can only be realised if we invest in people as well as projects. The next generation must see clean energy not just as a career option, but as a national mission they can lead. Our new initiative is about inspiring that vision, giving young people the knowledge and confidence to step into an industry that will define their future.”
Andrew McKinnon, Director, Renewables Connect International, said: “We’re thrilled to see Opergy mark its sixth birthday by gifting six deserving individuals learning licenses for ‘The World of Renewables and Clean Energy’. This initiative gives them unrivalled access to knowledge that will help them hit the ground running after their studies, benefiting both their employers and the wider sector.”
