The Net Zero 2030 Strategy & Climate Action Plan was commissioned by North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) to outline a clear and actionable pathway for the council and the wider community to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. This initiative is part of NNDC’s commitment to addressing the climate emergency declared in April 2019, aligning local efforts with national and global climate targets.

Opergy was engaged to develop this comprehensive strategy, leveraging our expertise in sustainable development, energy efficiency, and community engagement. The project involved a multi-faceted approach, encompassing thorough research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to ensure a holistic and effective climate action plan.

The strategy development process began with a detailed assessment of NNDC’s current carbon footprint, identifying key sources of emissions and potential areas for improvement. This baseline assessment provided a foundation for setting realistic and achievable targets. Next Steps: Following the development of the Net Zero 2030 Strategy & Climate Action Plan, NNDC is focused on the following next steps to drive implementation and ensure sustained progress:

• Governance and Coordination: Establishing a dedicated governance structure to oversee the implementation of the strategy, including the formation of working groups and task forces for specific areas such as renewable energy, transport, and community engagement.
• Funding and Resources: Identifying and securing funding sources to support the implementation of various initiatives outlined in the plan. This includes exploring opportunities for grants, public-private partnerships, and other financing mechanisms.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Developing a robust monitoring and reporting framework to track progress against the targets set in the strategy. Regular reporting will ensure transparency and accountability, allowing for timely adjustments to be made as required.
• Community Engagement: Continuing to engage with local residents, businesses, and community groups to build awareness and support for the climate action plan. This includes ongoing education campaigns, workshops, and public consultations to keep the community informed and involved.
